Skateboarding as a Sport

You might have seen teenagers gliding on the streets using planks with wheels - some on their own, others in packs - this is what you call skateboarding. In recent years, skateboarding has been noted not only as a worldwide known and practised sport, but also as a trend and a lifestyle.

Although there had been a lot of arguments and disputes about referring to skateboarding as a sport, a lot of people have invested in making it one of the most awaited competitions in the world Olympics. One concern that various skateboard associations had about entering it in the Olympics was that it will most likely forfeit its nature. This is because skateboarding is a highly independent activity and forcing it into the governance of the Olympics committee will make it mainstream. Associations were also worried that if they do not pull themselves together and enter skateboarding into the world tournament, some other entity will and they will lose their control over the sport. Hence, an international skateboarding organisation has been formed.

By making skateboarding an Olympic sport, more and more individuals who are good at it will finally have a chance to make a name for themselves. They will be recognised globally as a great contender of such sport. Moreover, the sport will also be more disciplined than when it was first introduced.

Skateboarding is not just about wearing street fashion clothes, doing tricks in front of a lot of people, or gliding through streets with all your cool friends. Skateboarding is also a sport that requires self-discipline, hard work, and a great dose of nerves to be able to pull off stunts that no one else can.
